The Assam Police arrested a person from Hrishyamukh in the South Tripura district Monday over charges of drug peddling related to a case registered at Bazaricherra police station in Karimganj district.
Speaking to indianexpress.com, a senior official of the state police who didn’t wish to be named, said Dipanjan Baidya, 25, was arrested from his residence by a team of the Assam Police led by a deputy SP-level officer.
“He was arrested in connection with case no. 62 at Bazaricherra police station which was registered on March 8 this year at Karimganj district of Assam under Sections 22(C), 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” the official said.
According to the Tripura Police official, the Assam Police team arrived in Belonia at 12:30 pm Monday, arrested the accused person from Hrishyamukh in coordination with Tripura Police officials, and departed for Assam at 4:40 pm.
Another senior official of the state police said the accused was also a border tout and was involved in the illegal entry and exit of Bangladeshi nationals through parts of South Tripura.
Dipayan was arrested and taken directly to Assam and was not produced before any local court in Tripura, an official said, adding that he would be produced before a court in Assam within the stipulated time frame.
